Boilers in G75, South East Kilbride

G75 covers the south of East Kilbride, and it is really two distinct kinds of housing. Westwood and Greenhills went up largely in the late 1960s and 70s, and a substantial number of those homes still have back boilers behind the living-room fire or gravity-fed systems with a cylinder upstairs. Over 30 years working across both halves of the town is what tells us which of the two you are likely to have before you send a photo.

Lindsayfield, Jackton and the newer developments around Hairmyres are a different proposition entirely, built from the 1990s onward on sealed pressurised systems, frequently with system boilers, sometimes zoned, and increasingly with unvented cylinders that bring every outlet up to mains pressure.

The result is that a G75 address tells us a lot but not everything, so this is the postcode where we most often ask for a photo of the boiler and the airing cupboard before confirming a price. It takes thirty seconds and it is still faster than arranging a home visit.

Back boilers in Westwood and Greenhills

If you live in Westwood or Greenhills and have a gas fire in the living room with an airing cupboard cylinder upstairs, you are almost certainly on a back boiler. Most of the ones we remove in this part of G75 are between thirty and fifty years old.

They ran reliably for decades, but they operate at roughly half the efficiency of a modern condensing combi, they heat a stored tank whether you need it or not, and parts are now genuinely hard to source. When one fails properly, replacement is nearly always the sensible call rather than repair.

Converting starts at £1,695, usually takes a day, and is priced individually from your photos and details. The fire and boiler come out, the chimney is swept, capped and vented, the cylinder and loft tanks are removed, and a new combi goes on a kitchen wall.

Newer homes in Lindsayfield and Jackton

The newer end of G75 rarely needs a conversion. What these homes usually need is either a like-for-like system boiler replacement, or an honest conversation about whether the cylinder is holding the system back.

A vented cylinder in a four-bedroom Lindsayfield house will deliver disappointing pressure upstairs no matter how good the boiler is. Swapping it for an unvented cylinder brings every tap and shower up to mains pressure and is often the single upgrade people notice most, and it does not require touching the boiler at all.

Where the boiler is sound and the pressure is fine, the remaining gains are in controls and balancing. Weather compensation and a properly balanced system will do more for a modern house than any amount of extra output.

In the newest G75 homes, the answer is almost never a bigger boiler. It is usually a better cylinder, correct balancing, or controls that actually modulate.
